HI I AM NEW HERE, RECENTLY BOUGHT AN XF FALC WITH 225K ON THE CLOCK. BODY IS IN GOOD NICK ETC, DOES'NT USE OIL SEEM'S OK DOWN BELOW, BUT VALVE TRAIN SEEM'S PRETTY RATTLY, I RECKON ITS WORN OUT LIFTERS, DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW LONG THE CAM IN THESE THINGS LAST ?, SHOULD I CHANGE JUST THE LIFTERS OR THE WHOLE VALVE TRAIN?. THE CAR IS AN EFI AUTO, A/C ,P/S , WHEN IGIVE IT HEAP'S AROUND TOWN IM DOWN TO ABOUT 12-MPG IS THIS ABOUT AVERAGE ?, OR IS THIS FIGURE WAY OUT OF THE ORDINARY  THANKS IN ADVANCE

Almost an "Aussie Sixes" question...

At 225K, I would suggest a new full roller timing set for sure (say $120 to buy), and inspect the cam/lifters. Run with a Crow set if they're past useful life. Your valve springs might be showing some age, too. I would say never change the lifters alone - do the cam at the same time.

For a well used engine with a bit hanging off it, the mileage aint so bad.
