Seams to me the best turbos are big ones which are found on tractors and trucks. Of the Schwitzer/Garret Air Research TO4 type, or the old Rotomaster or Rajay/TRW design.

Do any of out International Harvestor and John Deere lovers have any info on what prospect on getting a non-core Turbo is?

I'm looking at a nitrous assisted turbo, so the A/R ratio can be up 0.96 or more, but some may be down to 0.68 or so. Okay for the big machines in the 250 to 500 braket.

I checked some JD numbers. What sort of TO4 turbos these big boys run?

I've never been impressed with the John Deere engine if you pull them down a little they give up and dye and the International's aren't much better. The cummins has more lug but the New Holland Genesis has buy far the most. Find out what turbo the 8970 New Halland Genesis uses. The power that 456 put's out is unreal. Torque rise is something else expecally when you gain hp as you lose RPM's. That engine is 210 hp at 2100 and I've heard of people dynoing them and haveing them produce over 300 hp as they pull them down I'm sure they had to be turned up a little so I'm guessing they are more than 210 at 2100. The last 3208 Cat we put in the 4-210 is certified 260 hp the Case Interantional 7130 Maginum dynos at 217 and neither came even close the power that Genesis we demoed had. I have a 8770 New Holland Genesis which is 160hp lots of lug 47% torque rise from 2100 to 1500 gains 22 hp from 2100 to 1800. The DT408 in my International 1995 truck dosen't lug like that genesis nor does the International DT466 in the combine. I'll try to findout what turbo my 8770 has but it is smaller than 8970's as is the injector pump the 8970 has the same pump my DT408 has.

Alot of the Caterpillar "over the road" truck engines use Garrette TO4 turbos. The one off the 3176 would be the best bet, its one of the smaller sized T04's those engine run the 250-325hp range. The old Cat 3208 engines suck compaired to there Newer Inline 6 engines, the new C-series engines are hard to beat in there respective classes. I Drive an Off-highway truck of my job, V-16 cat turning 2150hp :D

When I was out to get my flywheel from a yard up the road, I found an old box turck with no cab and a GIANT inline motor. Sitting nicely, painted in blue, on the side was an Air Research T04 turbo. Me and a buddy are gonna go look at it and see if its worth our time. It will either stay there, come with us and go on his supra or come with us and get sold to one of yall or on ebay.

i dont understand the comment "I've never been impressed with the John Deere engine if you pull them down a little they give up and dye" because i have used many diffren jd's on the farm and never had any power problems. the air reserch turbos are a very good product as well. and as i side nor i had the pimairy after cooler hose on a 8300t blow and it still would pull a 46ft cultavater in 8th gear of 16 with out to much effert.
