At the construction company, my work mate dragged a modified Formula 455, 1973. Yes 13.7 quarter miles, all the time. That SD 455 was a true 8.4 compression 290 HP net engine, true 325 HP gross. Down in Australia, the best 1970 to 1973 engines were the Holley 3310 Carbed Al Turner FSV Phase II, III and IV 351C's with the K and QC code cam. 340, 350 and 380 HP gross, but even with 10.7 to one compression, Top Loader 4speed, still slower than a Super Duty 455. Air Flow Research did the Super Duty cylinder head design. Despite the rated difference, an engine with 55 HP less gross rated power does a better quarter mile time.
