Speedway Motors HEI Distributor

I was wondering if any of you guys have tried this Distributor for your 223's. About 300 dollars less then DUI.

Here is a link:

Speedway has a good reputation for good parts. Would probably be a safe investment. A couple of the big6 guys have been disappointed with DUI, appears no different than the cheap brands, wasn't curved as advertised.

Thanks Frank. I might pull the trigger on a Malory Duel point I found on facebook market place
I would go that route personally. You can hook the points to the TFI ignition module from the EFI Fords and get 12V at the coil, consistent dwell regardless of point gap, and reduce the amps on the points to nearly nothing.

It looks like the Chinese knock offs sold on Ebay. Honestly I'd be concerned about long term reliability.
That was my point also: even the expensive Davis units look china-cheesy, at least one member sent it back unused, another had issues with advance curve.

Well first you just use one of the Ford DuraSpark II unit's instead of the DUI's & HEI's the DS II is proven swap for these old 215, 223, or 262 Six's. To start with those Advance Curves used in those HEI's and DUI's haven't even been right for use in the 300 Six's and a 215, 223, & 262 Six needs far less Total Timing than a 300 Six dose. If it can be made to work at all than it probably would need to be done by someone having a Distributor Machine like Bill "was 111".

What needs to be done to recurve these DUI’s
My experience with one, Summit brand, accurate recurving was impossible without pro equipment. The weights/springs were different (thinner/lighter) than a OEM GM distributor, so there was no listing for parts known to work. Over the course of several years finally got it close with a Mopar multi spring pack and modifying the throw mechanism to reduce total travel. Every couple of years the centrifugal would gradually seize up, had to go in and carefully oil the center shaft and free it back up. Very unsatisfying distributor. Snagged the module, the rest went in the trash when it came out.
Hopefully the advertising is true that they are now "curved" for a 300. I'm sceptical- and that would be a carb-head curve. An EFI head, there is no out of box distributor that will be correct. Mine out-of-box was a SBC curve all the way, which is about as far off for the 6 as you can get.

Just realized I'm referencing my HEI experience from the big six, and the thread is for the 223. Apologies. . . (but I still wouldn't recommend the aftermarket HEI.)

I bought the Mallory Dual Point. Should be arriving next week. Now to do the research to set it up properly. I will probably not use a TFI module. I know I am being stubborn, but I do not want to have anything electronic on my car unless I absolutely have to. Thank you all for your thoughts on the DUI from Speedway. It is a direction I did not particularly want to head. Thank goodness I found the Mallory unit.

Since I have purchased the Mallory, I need your guys help in getting parts for it. I have been looking around and they seem kind of scarce. I should be getting it Monday so hopefully there are parts numbers on the cap, rotor, condenser, and points I can cross reference. For now here is the info I do have on it from the tag on the distributor itself. This information may or may not be correct as the tag is pretty beat up and there is a bit of glare on it in the pictures.

Model: ZC
Type: 313 A

The last time I looked, the parts for that distributor were very scarce but the only thing that's impossible to find is the condenser. I ordered spare parts from Speedway but I ordered by part number. If you can find the instructions for that distributor, I think it includes the parts list. In any event, keep looking. There are a couple of Mallory specialists out there who have some parts and know what else might fit. Best of luck.

I'm 'all in' for the kinda ideas the DSII presents (post #8). HEI & DUI are out (price, durability, performance - MPGs'n pep).
Up grade past mallory'n pertonix if U ask me. A lill closer to 'set it'n forget it', I see alota racers on the DSII. I DO know 1
of them playin w/a remote mount TFI tho. Not sure the rest. Will hear soon tho. Track only hasa few "test'n tunes" left (no
competition, lower cost, still has the timer on).
