AFRs & O2 Sensors-Wide vs. Narrow Band?

I have a mechanically stock engine and C4, 2.83 axle, and 215/60-15 tires. I was looking at setting max advance to correspond to 80 MPH on level ground, and let the vacuum take care of retarding advance on uphill runs.

My next toy will lilkely be a basic AFR meter. I've seen some advertised to work with the "Stock" narrow band O2 sensors. Will that be totally worthless? I've read posts where members are unhappy with "Narrow Band" sensors. Why? I don't want to monitor 24/7. I just want to have optimum MPG at highway speeds for long road trips. ;)

Narrow Band O2 sesors really aren't that great. They can be instructive, and are better than nothing - but...

For the insanely low cost of the JAW, I can't see wasting the money on a narrow band.

Of course, I can't seem to get my JAW working - either. Plenty of others have however.

As the two of you already know, 14point7 is NOT known for speedy service. It took mine a bit over 2 months to get here. It was several weeks before my paypal order was even "acknowledged". If you're looking for something in a hurry, JAW might not be for you (unless maybe you arranged a deal with 14point7 for expedited shipping).
I can't comment on how well it works because my kit came minus 10 capacitors. I understand they are quick and easy to respond to these matters but I'm just gonna go to the local electronics store to pick them up. My patience only lasts but so long. FWIW, I think I was an uncommon case of having missing components.

That's part of the issue. I'm partially color blind, and can't really get too deep into electronics wizardry. My car is not a DD, so I don't need to map out a perfect fuel curve, just get to about 14.6 at highway speeds. I can set up a narrow-band sensor and gauge for half the price of the JAW, or any of the other wide-band setups.
