Engine ID number

Can't find a ID number on my 226 H series engine. Where/ How do you identify this gem ???

Check for the ID number on the top of the clutch housing.

On my 46, which has the G-series I found the number on the left side at the front and just below the head. Normally Ford did not put numbers on the block, just on the gearbox. I do not know why there was one on my engine. Just know that the engine and frame has same number and the car in No.7955 built after WWII.
